- Ignition Coil
-
- This device
- amplifies the low
- 12 volts from the
- battery to a high
- enough voltage to
- cause a spark in
- the gap of a spark
- plug to start the
- engine. Composed
- of two coils wound
- inside an oil
- sealed casing, the
- ignition coil has
- primary and
- secondary high
- voltage terminals
- on the coil cap.
- The battery,
- through the
- ignition switch, is
- routed directly to
- the coil, where the
- voltage
- amplification
- occurs. Water can
- seriously damage an
- ignition coil, and
- must never be
- unsealed.
